Welcome

The history of journalism in Arkansas can be traced back more than 300 years to the journals of Italian-born explorer Henri deTonti, who sat at a crude table at Arkansas Post and wrote his account of La Salle’s descent of the Mississippi River (published in 1686). Subsequent journalists like Thomas Nuttall (published in 1819), Henry Schoolcraft (1821), and Friedrich Gerstäcker (1845) wrote stunning descriptions of the Arkansas territory’s geography, its natural beauty, and the culture of its people.

Today’s community of Arkansas journalists continues to observe, report, and comment on things that matter. Many have done so with great distinction.

The Arkansas Journalism Hall of Fame was founded to recognize and promote excellence in journalism by individuals with a connection to Arkansas. Nominations can be made by anyone, and anyone living or deceased who has ever lived or worked in Arkansas in some journalistic capacity can be nominated.

Our aim is to pass on to future generations the legacy of excellence left by Arkansas journalists.
